Just got my classic single yesterday, choosing it after months of very intensive research on guitars.  After much anticipation I was amazed to find this guitar actually exceeded my expectations in terms of appearance, sound, everything.  The cobalt blue finish is absolutely beautiful and the headstock looks far more impressive than pictures show.  I had never touched a Gadow guitar so this was a bit of a leap of faith but I was impressed by Ryan and everything I'd read about the guitars.  Fired up to get to know this instrument and show it to others!  My first new guitar in 20 years, so I am like a little kid about this.

A couple of questions - maybe these should be elsewhere on this board but I'm asking them anyway --

(1) I have never adjusted action on my guitars but the high E is a little low - is this a truss rod adjustment?  I hate to go fiddling around with the truss rod.  Any other way to deal with this?

(2) When turned, the volume knob scrapes a little against the body of the guitar in the non-coil-tapped position - is this something I can expect to loosen a little over time?  I can live with it but hate to damage the instrument.

Very glad to join the family.  If anybody finds themselves in Maine looking to play a little, put a post on the board and we'll get in touch.

Congrats and welcome to the family! grin You can adjust the action by using the wrench that is in the pocket of the case. You will have to loosen the large caps on top of the post..then use the wrench under the bridge to lower it....if you have any questions give me a call at the shop....as for the knob just use an allen wrench to loosen and re set...it must have been jared during shipping.

Congrat's on your new guitar!

Whereabouts in Maine are you? I'm up here for one more week before I go back to my cushy job at Gadow (It's starting to get a little too cold for me!)

Help spread the word in the North! We've got to get a dealer up here!

Congrat's on the Classic Single! My Custom Single was the first new electric I had bought in many years as well. I love the necks on Ryan's guitars, and they don't sound too shabby either! wink I had a '76 Strat, and '65 Gibson Melody Maker that was built like Pat Travers axe. With the CS, I don't miss either of those guitars, and I hear their new owners are very happy with them. So life is good! grin

CD, I'm in Cumberland, work in Portland.  Sorry to hear you are leaving Maine but glad to hear Gadow will have a good Mainer on board.

As for the adjustments, I took a quick stab at both but with no success.  I got the volume knob off, but is there another adjustment to change the height of the knob or am I just putting it back on?  When I put it back on it still scrapes.  Not a big deal but would like to avoid damaging the finish.

As for the action...I'm adjusting just the right side, right?  And if I think the action should be higher rather than lower, I'm raising the bridge rather than lowering it, aren't I?  As far as action goes my understanding is if the string hits the frets at the 12th fret when I press down on the 21st, then it should be higher.  Maybe I'm off on all of this or should just give you a call.

Thanks for your time.

For the knob, you should be able to loosen the set screw and lift the knob up just a bit until it no longer hits the finish, then tighten the set screw. One thing that has me thinking, is maybe the shaft for the volume pot is bent a little? If the knob appears to wobble when you turn it, this may be the case. As for settingthe action, I'd give Ryan a call so he can talk you through it while you have the guitar in front of you. Should make things easier for both of you!

Thanks for the tip, Dennis.  I will try it tonight.  And you are right, calling Ryan makes the most sense.

Followup - have now had my classic single for a few weeks and this thing is great - it is giving me exactly the sounds I was looking for (and that's through a crappy old amp, to be replaced before the end of the year), plus some I hadn't counted on.  It's also a pleasure to play, love the neck.  So far I am glad I took this leap of faith on the unknown.

Hope you guys are treating the Mainer well down there.

Hey all - just wanted to report that my Gadow got a lot of attention at a local blues jam a few nights ago.  In a room filled with 335s, LPs, SGs, Strats, Teles and PRS, folks were very interested in this guitar and particularly admired the inlay on the headstock and the clean design.  3 people separately told me they thought it got the best sound of the night out of the Groove Tubes amp that many of us were taking turns with.

Thought you'd like to hear the good feedback.
