Gadow Custom 5-string - Pics & Sound Clip

We recently received this gorgeous 5-string Gadow Custom bass. The top and the finish are freakin' gorgeous, and the bass sounds REALLY good. Man, I LOVE Joe Barden pickups. Here's me using it on Mongo Santamaria's Afro Blue. Hat tip to Derek trucks for the inspiration to make the tune more of a rocker.

Yep, no Gadow for me... yet!!    I could easily own one, they're definitely in the same league as my current instruments.

I currently play 2 Roscoes, a fretted Century Sig 5 and a fretless Century Sig 5. Like this Gadow, my Roscoe fretted 5 also sports Joe Barden pickups. I'm a HUGE fan of Joe's pickups, and I order most/all of my Gadows with them. They're hot, super articulate, noiseless, and they just add more of everything (more highs, more mids, more lows).




My biz partner Dan Dunlap is the knowledegable guitar player part of Rocket Music. He's had some rough tracks for an original tune done for over 10 years, and he just handed me a CD of the project the other day. I programmed some drums and laid down a bass line that once again features this Gadow Custom bass. Other than bass and drums, it's all Danny (guitars and vocals).

"Southern Lady"

I think the Gadow bass sounds fantastic on this track. It's fat, but it bites, too. I've got the bass mixed too hot, but that's OK. I'm trying to show off how it sounds.

Speaking of Danny and Gadow, here's Danny's personal Gadow Setneck. It's his main guitar when he plays with me and a few other guys in The Electric Woodshed (Allmans, Little Feat sort of band). He'll also bust out his Strat on that gig, but not very often.

The guitar is fully MIDI capable, so he also uses it a jam band we're in called The Kind. He plays lead guitar AND "keys" in that band.

Look familiar? It's the same finish that's on the bass above. I don't think we've all settled on a name for the color yet, but these two instruments would make an incredible matched pair! Let's see them side-by-side, what say?

Here's a clip of Danny and me playing in our band The Electric Woodshed. That's Gadow power from the left guitar player (Danny), and I'm happily offscreen to the right on my fretted Roscoe Century Sig V bass. And that's "King" George Penn, Jr. on drums, and he is a most serious groove artist!
